Hi everyone! I hope that you had a great time during our last GM KAPA Speed Dating and the KAPA Social if you came through!! Hopefully you found some people to be your potential kuyate or little!!!!! I had such a fun time getting to know you all a bit more <3

As we are approaching week 5 of the semester and getting into the swing of things, I hope that you are being kind and gentle to yourself as school starts to pick up. I’m sending you strength, as well as the love and peace that you deserve in your hearts. I know that for me at least, when things start to get busy, I become increasingly hard on myself when it’s during these times that I should be the most forgiving.

Going into this week, what is one thing you can forgive yourself for? Write it down somewhere, on your laptop, or on a sticky note you can see at your desk. For me, it’s sleeping in! I find myself being guilty for catching up on the sleep I’ve been missing out on, and I often forget that rest is productive and a very integral part of my self care.

I know you’re doing your best and you should all be so proud of yourself! I’m rooting for you guys. You can do this.

Check out this week’s Corner for the TP Mental Health Resources and Services Guide, Lissa’s favorite study playlists, and a guided meditation if you are interested! There are also more details about special internship opportunities from SIPA (Search to Involve Pilipino Americans) and USC!

A gentle reminder that our next Kyrayla Office Hours is this Tuesday, from 7:30-9:30 as a safe space for all of you to chill or hangout, and I’d love to see you there. <3 If not, we’ll see you at this week’s GM PACF Hype!

As always, all my love-

Kyra

Connections & Opportunities:

  • Internships:

    • SIPA (Search to Involve Pilipino Americans) and non-profit in Historic Filipinotown is offering their Stop The Hate Youth Leaders Internship! Read the following for more details.

      • From SIPA: “We are recruiting for our Stop the Hate Youth Leaders Internship that will provide education, awareness, and leadership skills to youth ages 16 – 22. This 6-month internship, starting in December 2023, focuses on gaining the skills and knowledge to prevent anti-Asian American hate and violence. Throughout the internship, youth will attend trainings to learn how to talk about racism with their peers, prevent it through education and workshops, and stopping it through de-escalation techniques. Additionally, they’ll be learning how to use arts and culture as a method to heal and take care of ourselves. The internship will culminate with a youth-led conference to kick off APAHM.”

      • Check out the one pager for the internship opportunity here.

      • Apply here! Applications close on October 20th.

      • Information sessions are on Wednesday September 27th 5PM – 6PM and Thursday October 12 5PM – 6PM! If you are interested, please reach out to @Beatrice@sipacares.org for more information!

    • USC Global Fellows

      • Have you ever wanted to travel to East Asia for work? Through the Global Fellows program, USC provides an opportunity to do so for the summer! If selected, you embark to Seoul, South Korea or Tokyo, Japan for 8 weeks and are matched with an internship that aligns with your career goals. The best part is…it’s fully funded! USC covers your airfare, housing expenditures, and even provides a stipend for you to cover food and cultural expenses. I had the privilege of being a part of this program this past summer and got to live in Seoul while working for a Marketing start-up. If you guys have any questions about the application or my experience, don’t hesitate to reach out as always. I’d love to chat about it! Applications close Wednesday, November 29th!
