Self-Care Column: Journal Prompts & Professional Resources

Writer's picture: USC Troy PhiUSC Troy Phi

Hey all! I hope you guys enjoyed your time at this past week’s Kyrayla Office Hours and PACF Hype GM! For those picking up or those being picked up, I hope you’re all excited for KAPA REVEALS!! Since I’ve come to USC, my TroyPhi line (shoutout Angel line!!) has become a true family for me and I know the same will go for all of you.

For a quick gratitude exercise, think about someone who’s family to you—- blood relation or not. Maybe it’s someone you haven’t spoken to in a while! If you feel comfortable, send them a quick text telling them what they mean to you! Or, feel free to give them a call if you like as well :)) For me, grounding myself and remembering the people that serve as my support system always motivates me to keep going! As I’m writing this, I just texted my parents!

Be sure to check out each week’s Dev Corner for different personal/professional resources! This week, we have Lissa’s Journal Prompts for Self Care, and if you’re a Viterbi student, an opportunity to connect with a TP USC Alum!

Don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything, of just wanna chat! <3

All my love,

Kyra

Lissa’s Journal Prompts to Aid Self Care:

The semester is quickly picking up, especially with midterms around the corner and club activities getting more intensive. One way I help myself stay grounded through all the chaos is by journaling at least once a week. I find it to be very therapeutic and a great way to indulge in self care, so I definitely recommend you try it out sometime! Here are some journal prompts you can write or just think about the next time you need to recollect your thoughts and emotions 💞

  • What are 3 songs that make you feel good and why?

  • What are 3 things you accomplished this week, no matter how small they may seem?

  • What are 3 of your favorite quotes?

  • What are 3 things that make you feel cozy and comfortable?

  • What are 5 things you love about yourself and why?

  • What are 5 things you are looking forward to this next week or month?

  • What does your ideal self-care day look like?

  • What is something that you’re struggling with right now and what are steps you can take to address it?

I hope these prompts help you de-stress a bit and possibly add a little bit of joy to your day! I’m rooting for you guys and am always here to help! Reach out to me at ifredric@usc.edu anytime you need anything or would like to talk :)

Throughout the internship, youth will attend trainings to learn how to talk about racism with their peers, prevent it through education and workshops, and stopping it through de-escalation techniques. Additionally, they’ll be learning how to use arts and culture as a method to heal and take care of ourselves. The internship will culminate with a youth-led conference to kick off APAHM.”

If selected, you embark to Seoul, South Korea or Tokyo, Japan for 8 weeks and are matched with an internship that aligns with your career goals. The best part is…it’s fully funded! USC covers your airfare, housing expenditures, and even provides a stipend for you to cover food and cultural expenses. I had the privilege of being a part of this program this past summer and got to live in Seoul while working for a Marketing start-up.
